INFORMATION

Euro Drive RENT A CAR SINCE 1987

In 1987 we began our car hire company in, Chania and Maleme Crete. We recognize that there was an increasing demand by the discerning traveler for a certain amount of independence, freedom and flexibility of movement whilst on holiday. Travelers also demand choice and with these facts in mind we have built up our car hire fleet accordingly.

Now with several offices and a large fleet of vehicles we provide a service to those staying in Kolymvari, Tavronitis, Maleme, Gerani, Platanias, Agia Marina, Stalos and Chania – Chania airport and the surrounding areas that is second to none.

The choice of cars is varied – from the smallest easily parked ‘A’ category to four-wheel drive jeeps to family cars, cabriolets, nine-seat mini bus and luxury saloon. The fleet is constantly being upgraded with new cars added every year. Service and maintenance are a top priority in order to ensure the safety and comfort of our customers.

Prices are competitive – we sell directly from our offices and not through a tour operator or any other representative. This means there are no hidden extras and the bottom line price does not include a sales commission which has been added on to the price the customer pays.

Driving in Crete
Renting a car most of the times means driving a car you are not familiar with, in unfamiliar places, maybe on narrow country roads with signs in a foreign language. Parking may be difficult and dealing with local driving habits can be challenging. So our members of our team will there to help you at any time 24/7.

During in Crete improved the last twenty years the road system in Crete has improved with a new highway connecting Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos in the east with Chania with an extension under construction as far as Kissamos and Sitia. Secondary roads are slower but most have a good road surface and run north south connecting main towns and villages.

Rules of the road – Driving is on the right hand side. In the town observation of lane etiquette is non-existent and peak hours can be chaotic. Traffic lights change straight from red to green and an instant reaction is necessary to avoid the driver behind beeping impatiently.

It is wise to park in official parking areas to avoid a ticket from the traffic police. In the country white lines mark the major roads. An unbroken white line means no overtaking though this is largely ignored by the locals. The white line on the near side indicates a crawler lane to use when you are being overtaken but beware of parked vehicles. Look out for potholes and road works which are rarely sign posted in advance. Fill up with petrol before you leave the main towns as petrol garages are few and far between in the countryside. Traffic signs are standard continental. Direction signs are usually given in Greek followed by English on main roads but on minor roads may only be in Greek and in the mountains and south non-existent.
